The intimate single’s frank lyrics, hushed instrumentation, and alluring atmosphere perfectly mirror the soft yet addictive side of love, completed with lines such as “Whenever you're around I wanna breathe you in.” Serving as the first taste of their surprise Songs for Sadness EP, “umakemenotwannadie” offers a relieving and heartwarming departure from the band's typical sound. Some fans even dubbed it the opposite of “Dead To Me,” yet also emphasizing how all corners fit into Palaye Royale’s extensive discography. The accompanying music video cycles through the high-energy chaos of touring and the slower, mellow comedown that includes their love life.

Songs for Sadness arrived on streaming platforms exactly a week later. Frontman Remmington Leith described the project, stating, “Songs For Sadness is every sad thought or feeling I’ve ever had put on to recording. It’s my therapy put into words. It’s my depression masterpiece. It’s a body of work where I let my guard down and showed you my heart, every broken piece of it.”
