Palaye Royale – Hang On To Yourself

“Hang On To Yourself” completed a trilogy of singles that opened a new chapter in Palaye Royale's history. Released October 17, 2019, in anticipation of their third studio album, The Bastards, the single stands as a catchy emphasis on the band's new era.

The song’s music video, along with the prior two, follows the story of their Neutopian Graphic Novel, which was written and illustrated by their drummer, Emerson Barrett. The videos contain several references and hidden gems, something that they have had included since their inception. The lyric “fly to the moon” is in direct reference to their track, “Dying In A Hot Tub.” The Soldiers of the Royal Council (Palaye Royale’s dedicated fanbase) gathered to share their theories and decipher the secret messages embedded in the songs and videos upon release.

“Ever since our first EP, ‘The End’s Beginning’ we have been hinting and hiding words and symbols in everything we have created.” The band shared, “Boom Boom Room Side A and Side B was a continuation of this existential treasure hunt. Now as we enter the new era, it all begins to unfold.”

Following several more singles and thousands of fan theories, The Bastards arrived on May 29, 2020. The concept album is divided into four acts that all surround a society transformed by its toxic political structure. Important topics are addressed throughout, including gun violence, mental health, addiction, and more. Upon release, the album climbed the alternative music charts, along with landing a spot on the Billboard 200. Fans regard The Bastards as both a monumental and essential album in Palaye Royale’s discography, cementing its place in the band's history.
