Des Rocs – Love and a Smoking Gun

Following the success of Des Rocs’ 2023 album Dream Machine, he gifted the world an extended edition: Dream Machine: The Lucid Edition. While containing the same iconic tracks that fans fell in love with, it also brought six additional songs. Two live tracks (“Hold On” and “In The Night”) were added alongside “In The Night (feat. Underoath).” Among these were three brand new tracks, “Trauma Loop,” “The Way,” and “Love and a Smoking Gun.”

The ladder arrived with a stunning music video that was shot on 8mm to resemble concert films from the 70s. Rocs spoke on the track, revealing, “’Love and a Smoking Gun’ is an idea I’ve been tinkering with for years. I wanted to maximise my idea of bedroom area rock and create an epic rock and roll adventure in the most spartan and DIY way. Preserving the grit, emotion and the intensity of it all is everything Des Rocs stands for.”

“Love and a Smoking Gun” incorporates a mix of haunting, slow portions and high-energy rock bliss. Lyrics such as “I’m still alive / Though everyone is gone,” and “I look death in the face and I said baby whats your name?” empower the listener while the others reel listeners back into the emotional depth of the piece: “Or will you face the consequence? / Will you write how the story ends? / What have you done to me?” Through Des Rocs’ blend of iconic classic rock influences and modern flair, the single stands as a testament to his creative genius.
