Dead Posey – Head Of The Snake

Dead Posey released their debut EP Freakshow via Sumerian Records in 2018. Since then, the married duo has secured placements in shows such as Lucifer and Teen Wolf, as well as ads for Taco Bell, League of Legends, and other notable brands. They have brought their iconic rock sounds to major stages, such as Louder Than Life and Aftershock, while also attracting widespread attention from numerous publications, including Guitar World, Huffington Post, Pure Volume, and Glide Magazine.

While the world was paused for the international Covid-19 pandemic, Dead Posey unleashed their second offering from their Malfunctions EP. “Head Of The Snake” arrived as a narrative channeling of anger and oppression, delivered through a rock anthem reminiscent of classics such as Joan Jett. “Head Of The Snake” is Dead Posey’s fight back.

A few months later, the duo revealed their David Lynchian-style animated music video. “We started thinking about a 'Head of the Snake' video during the initial heavy days of Covid-19 quarantine, and quickly realized we were gonna need something that we didn’t have to physically shoot.” Dead Posey reveals, “That’s where the idea of doing an animated video came from. We worked with the very talented animator/illustrator Tony Celano at Sumerian Records to put this together. We wanted to show DP in a warped 50’s horror B-movie, with some surrealist Lynchian twists thrown in.”

They continue, “The song is about throwing off the shackles imposed by long-standing oppressive institutions and belief systems; we wanted the imagery to give that impression in an abstract way…while also throwing a couple direct gut punches to the system.”

The four-track EP arrived as an almost completely DIY effort. Vocalist Danyell Souza commented on the EP, stating, “We are perfectionists to a fault, we have to remind each other sometimes to kill our darlings so we don’t go completely insane.” Multi-instrumentalist Tony F. adds, “we do pretty much every last thing ourselves, so we have grown a shorthand in communication on how we make music. I think we encourage each other’s best attributes while also reigning in some impulses that might lead us astray. There’s a real yin and yang balance going on that gives Dead Posey its power and makes it what it is.”
