Charlotte Sands – Miss Murder

AFI’s BPI Silver, RMNZ Gold, and ARIA Platinum certified hit song “Miss Murder” shook the world in 2006 with its overwhelming fan reaction. Its music video, which has now amassed over 40 million views on YouTube, premiered on television shortly after the song's release. The compelling lyrics, “Hey, Miss Murder, can I? / Hey, Miss Murder, can I? / Make beauty stay if I take my life?” make for the perfect addition to the American Psycho comic soundtrack.

Charlotte Sands brought the vision to life, collaborating with Sumerian and covering the iconic hit. Sands brought a modern-rock edge while preserving the key essence of the song. The track was produced by Danen Reed Rector, who has worked with Underoath, Boys Like Girls, Set It Off, and more.

Sands shared, “I am so grateful to get to be a part of such an incredible project alongside so many artists I love and so many songs that have been such an enormous part of my life. I grew up listening to ‘Miss Murder’ and I’m so humbled to have gotten to create my own version of it and imagine an entirely new world for it to exist in. I enjoyed every single moment of this process and couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to help me bring it all to life.”

The cover premiered on September 12, 2024, alongside its music video. Each scene features a high contrast of black and red, setting the murderous tone of the track. Sands is depicted holding an axe, in true American Psycho fashion, and surrounded by knives between shots of her delivering a vibrant performance. Directed by James Gordon, the video elevates the song's energy in perfect harmony with the American Psycho Comic.

The American Psycho comic book series by Sumerian Comics is a bold reimagining of Patrick Bateman’s saga. Throughout the five issues, readers will dive into a dual storyline format, one tracing the chilling life of Bateman, and the other exploring a contemporary story featuring Charlene Carruthers—a social media-savvy millennial whose descent into violence mirrors that of her predecessor. This unique and new take was written by Michael Calero, features beautiful artwork by Piotr Kowalski, and vivid colors by Brad Simpson.
