Asking Alexandria – Moving On

The origins of “Moving On” just follow the completion of the rest of the songs on From Death to Destiny. Producer Joey Sturgis wanted more, proposing another song to guitarist Ben Bruce. Bruce then claimed he wanted to make a “hit song,” leaving Sturgis to compose a four-chord progression. “In my head, I’m just like teaching him how to make a Mötley Crüe song, and in his head, he’s like ‘I’m learning how to make a hit song from Joey Sturgis, this is crazy, and we end up with ‘Moving On,’” Sturgis revealed on the Brutality Podcast.

After they sent it to vocalist Danny Worsnop, he immediately envisioned the vocals and returned to record them. “So he comes back, records the vocals, and we just go ‘holy shit, this is a hit.’” Sturgis continues, “Because it sounded kinda dumb, like it was just those four chords, it was nothing special, but then Danny, like, told that whole story, sung the vocals that he sung, came up with the melodies, basically turned it into a thing. Now it’s in the top three or top five songs of all time of my whole career, and it was kind of almost like a prank.”

The music video captured an unfiltered and raw side of the band on the road. Between shots of their performance, band members are spotted reuniting with their loved ones, smoking, drinking, and vulnerable. Bruce told Blabbermouth, “For the first time in our careers, we are showcasing ourselves in the most sincere light possible. No drugs, no partying, no script and no bullshit. It's just the five of us completely vulnerable.” He continued, “No matter what the circumstance, being away from those you love and care about is very difficult and drags you down. Luckily for us, we have incredible fans that love and support us and help us through our toughest times. I hope this video gives you all a little bit of a look into our world. Thank you for all of your continued support and for keeping us going.”

“Moving On” climbed the charts to top positions and received a Gold certification from the RIAA. The single was the last off of From Death to Destiny, which arrived on August 6, 2013. The album received critical acclaim and praise worldwide while taking the number one spot on both the US Top Hard Rock Albums chart and the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart.

“Moving On” remains a staple in Asking Alexandria’s extensive discography and a prolific example of how creativity can turn any song into a masterpiece.
